7 Easy Ways to Be a Fantastic Parent

When it comes to parenting, no two children match. It’s difficult to figure out just how to parent your children, and there’s no one book that fits every situation. How can you be a fantastic parent? You might worry about failing your child, or worry about whether you did the right thing a week ago, and it can be worrisome. We’ve compiled a list of seven easy ways to be a fantastic parent to try and help you, so take a glance!

  1. Set limits

When it comes to bratty children, most of the time you see them demanding candy, and getting it. These are children who know that they don’t have limits, and know they can yell and scream all they want, and will eventually be rewarded for it. Cut off that habit before it starts by showing your children that there is a limit to bad behavior, and once you say to stop, they need to stop.

  1. Give them attention

Children crave attention, especially from their parents. Give it to them from early on, spending time with them every day and taking at least ten minutes each day to play a game with them. Have a special time of day where you two can do something with no interruptions, to show that you care about them!

Ways to Be a Fantastic Parent

  1. Please and Thank You!

Teach the child manners. Help them learn to open doors for others, or ask if they can help clean up after dinner. Please and thank you go a long way, but a complete set of manners goes farther. Reinforce good behavior by thanking them when it is over, and praise their willingness to do something without you asking them to.

  1. Get outside

Have them spend time outside every day. Make family outings a frequent occurrence, and encourage them to run around and play. Start them off young by having toddlers walk as much as they can, rather than toting them around in a stroller. Getting up and getting exercise brings healthier and happier children, as well as healthier and happier parents. You can exercise beside them to keep the entire family fit.

  1. Be a role model

Monkey see, monkey do. Children are the most honest mirrors you will ever know. Keep an eye on what you do every day. If you’re trying to show your child that saying please and thank you is a good thing, then you’d better be using the same manners. They’ll learn from your actions, and not completely from your words. Show your child how to be a good person, and they’ll be one, too.

  1. Talk to them

Whether it’s about their day, why they’re having a tantrum, or even just asking them what they want for dinner, talk to your children. Let them know that you care about what they think, and that you want to pay attention to them. They’ll learn that you’re someone to turn to in times of distress, and that you’re someone to talk to about anything.

  1. Trust yourself!

Last but not least, trust yourself! Rely on your instincts, and do the best you can. As long as you keep trying, you’ll do fine. Don’t second guess yourself, or keep changing your mind, or you’ll confuse you and your children.
